When you are comparing journals
Start with scope and coverage, then read the current quartile and the 1-year, 2-year and 5-year index windows together. A high short-window value can reflect recent momentum; a longer window can better suit fields where citations accumulate slowly.
Check time
Read the year attached to each quartile and index value.
Check quality context
Review external citations and self-citation separately.
How to read an author profile
- Confirm the ORCID, affiliation and country before interpreting the metrics.
- Compare publication count with calculated contribution; they are intentionally different measures.
- Compare total citations with calculated citations to understand the effect of filtering and weighting.
- Use the annual table to identify which years actually contain evidence.
- Read SWI Analysis as a concise description of displayed values, not as a personal judgment.

Responsible use
No author metric should be used as a hiring, promotion or research-quality verdict by itself. Authorship conventions vary by field, citation accumulation varies over time, and identity metadata can be incomplete. The product is designed for evidence-led investigation and correction.
Profile corrections
For an incorrectly merged or incomplete profile, include the profile URL, preferred author name, ORCID, affiliation and supporting publication links. This allows the identity claim to be checked against evidence.
